A postdoctoral position is immediately available for a candidate to work on molecular mosquito-arbovirus interactions in the laboratory of Dr. Alexander Franz, Dept. of Veterinary Pathobiology at the University of Missouri (vpbio.missouri.edu). The NIH-funded research work focuses on the molecular analysis of tissue barriers for arboviruses (dengue, Zika, and chikungunya) in Aedes aegypti. (see also: Dong et al., 2016; 2017; Kantor et al., 2017; 2018). The goal of this research effort is to characterize major tissue barriers and to identify genes involved in these barriers, which will be further analyzed via genetic manipulation of mosquitoes (gene knockout, site specific integration of transgenes). Overall, the research work encompasses a wide range of techniques in the fields of molecular entomology and arbovirology.
We are seeking a postdoctoral fellow who has experience with molecular biological/biochemical laboratory techniques and holds a Ph.D. in entomology, vector biology, or virology. The candidate should be highly motivated with a keen interest to develop and pursue innovative approaches to address this exciting research topic. Fully equipped laboratories (BSL2 and BSL3), insectaries, and excellent on-campus core facilities (electron/confocal microscopy, genomics, proteomics) are available to conduct these studies.
