The Scott lab in the Department of Entomology, North Carolina State University is hiring a postdoctoral fellow to continue development of “male-only” transgenic spotted wing Drosophila strains for a genetic control program. The approach will be similar to that we have to male-only strains of calliphorid livestock pests (http://igtrcn.org/transgenic-blow-flies-for-sit/) but with some important modifications. In addition, the fellow will further develop CRISPR/Cas9 technology in spotted wing Drosophila (see http://igtrcn.org/gene-editing-in-an-invasive-species/). The project will involve making gene constructs by recombinant DNA methods, development of transgenic lines and evaluation of strains for various biological characteristics.
